"After so many generations, I started noticing the diversity on the surface, what made me wonder. And so, together with a team of scientists, we jumped inside the chicken."  Koen Vanmechelen

The CC®P is an artistic, genetic project and an alliance between human geneticist professor Jean-Jacques Cassiman and artist Koen Vanmechelen. The objective of their collaboration is to investigate the genetics of the chicken.

The unique  CCP set-up provides scientists namely with an interesting model to investigate the genetic diversity between breeds and makes it possible to assess the consequences of crossbreedings. Is this breeding program the start of creating true genetic differences? And what are the eventual outcomes? These are the questions the research project tries to answer. But the chicken always remains a metaphor for humanity…

Dedomestication Project at Commandery, Meeuwen (BE)

Koen Vanmechelen is bringing his CCP-project to his hometown, Meeuwen-Gruitrode. Location is the ancient Commandery, once a center for politics, art, culture and defence but currently redesignated as info center and ‘entrance gate’ to the nature park Duinengordel. At this symbolical beacon between culture and nature, the artist will establish a new project bringing together art and science.

IMinds - Instatu Nascendi

With great proud we can announce to have been selected for the Art & D program of Iminds, together with researchers from the KU Leuven. This program means to connect people and knowledge, artists, designers and researchers, and supports innovative projects. With ‘Instatu Nascendi’ we aim to translate the interesting information obtained from the CC®P; a DNA research of the CCP led by geneticus Jean-Jacques Cassiman, to a wider audience with the use of Data Visualization techniques. In addition to displaying the genomic information, also novel analysis and visualisation techniques will be investigated to exhibit phenotype evolution and variation of the different breeds.
