Already over 5000 participants to the 'Nato a Venezia' study on biocultural diversity
Since June, Koen Vanmechelen has been presenting a laboratory on the borderline of art and science at the 54rd biennial of Venice. Inside the walls of one of the main centers of Venetian culture and knowledge (Instituto Veneto di Scienze, Lettere ed Arti), visitors are actively invited to take part in an open study which consists of three different research projects on biological and cultural diversity, each of them conducted by researchers on site.
Now, 4 months later, over 5000 people participated to the facial symmetry study (led by the university of Hasselt) and more than 3000 visitors where questioned about their vision on the role that art, and more specifically the Cosmopolitan Chicken Project, can play in our lives and the society as a whole. Finally, the third study (university of Hasselt), on biodiversity in the flatworm population, discovered a new species which was baptized Trigonostomum Vanmecheleni, after the artist.
