De Kus, public sculpture, Sint-Truiden (BE)
On the 23rd of May; Koen Vanmechelen's public art installation De Kus (the kiss) was officially inaugurated in Vanmechelen's home town; Sint-Truiden, Belgium. Two steel swords cross, creating an X; universal symbol of a kiss. On top; a golden hen and bronze rooster; red junglefowls. A reference to the origin of all other chicken breeds. Chicken and man come together in a sculpture on what happens when swords are put down

It is with great proud that we present the latest publication on Koens work. It's About Time is published on the occasion of the solo exhibition at Serlachius Museums. The book is published by Parvs, edited by Timo Valjakka and contains texts by Rod Mengham, Hanna Johansson and Jill Silverman van Coenegrachts as well as numerous images. Koen Vanmechelen’s Book of Genome added to the collection of the National Museum of Ethiopia
Belgian artist Koen Vanmechelen and the International Livestock Research Institute presented ’The Book of Genome’, to the National Museum of Ethiopia, also known as the LUCY musuem. Vanmechelen’s artwork is part of the larger art-science installation “Incubated Worlds” that was inaugurated at the Addis Ababa campus of the International Livestock Research Institute on the 26th of April. Vanmechelen: ‘We are honored to present these artworks to the National Museum of Ethiopia.
