Inauguration permanent installation INFINITY – C.C.P. in Dronten (NL)

Koen Vanmechelen’s permanent installation INFINITY – C.C.P. is officially inaugurated in Dronten, the Netherlands, on the 14th of May. Earlier in 2009, this work of art was exhibited at the Venice Biennale. The sculpture has found its permanent place in the watercourse of the residential area ‘De Gilden’. A few years ago, the inhabitants of Dronten selected this work of art for the area. INFINITY – C.C.P. is part of the worldwide Cosmopolitan Chicken Project by Koen Vanmechelen. The installation consists of a massive steel ring, as a reference to the ring that each cosmopolitan chicken has around its leg. These rings consist of a unique code, referring to the specific crossing to which the chicken belongs. A unique code is engraved on the steel ring, in this case the code of the Mechelse Uilebaard, the fifth crossing in the C.C.P. In doing so, the Dutch genes are involved in the piece of art and mixed with the world. The installation is placed in water and floats above the water surface. INFINITY – C.C.P. is symbolic to the municipality of Dronten, because the town arose by bringing people of different areas together. The ring symbolizes the merging of different cultures.
