From the 2nd of April until the 11th of September 2016, the Modemuseum in Hasselt presents Haute-à-Porter: an exhibition on the growing overlap between haute couture and ready-to-wear. Silhouettes and accessories from top designers and fashion houses like Dior and Chanel, are displayed next to photography, film, music and art. Curator Filep Motwary, an internationally acclaimed fashion designer, journalist and photographer, also selected works by Koen Vanmechelen. Haute-à-Porter focuses on major changes in the last 30 years of fashion industry. For a long time, the expensive luxury of haute couture was seen at variance with the cheaper, mass-productive wearable clothing. Today, the difference between the two is less obvious: they even show some similarities. Cross-fertilization and craftsmanship are two leading threads in the exhibition that also characterize the oeuvre of Koen Vanmechelen. His prepared llama’s and caracals are displayed, as is the iconic sculpture Signature – C.C.P. : a pair of chicken legs with golden claws and an iron hook. Along with the exhibition comes a book, complete with visuals by renowned photographers and artists. More information is to be found on www.modemuseumhasselt.be
