Forty years after Marcel Broodthaers introduced a dromedary in the arts, Koen Vanmechelen ordered a beautiful specimen to be flown over for his exhibition 'This Is Not a Chicken' in the museum Het Domein in Sittard. "Is this a work of art?", you may wonder together with Broodthaers. Well, what the visitor will see is much more than a chicken, a dromedary or an exhibition. He ends up in a laboratory where Vanmechelen works as alchemist with Cosmopolitan Chicken, camelids and mushrooms to realise an ancient human desire. Namely the birth of something non-existing from the sparks of the collision between art, technology and nature.
