On Saturday 13 September, the wild beauty of Protected Paradise becomes the stage for a meeting of musical worlds. Two singular voices – one rooted in history, the other forging paths into the unknown – converge in a landscape where nature and culture meet without compromise.

Wim Mertens, the architect of Belgian minimalism and an international icon of sonic introspection, returns to his native Limburg for a single performance in 2025. At the piano, joined by long-time collaborator Dirk Descheemaeker on clarinet and saxophone, Mertens offers a rare live experience. His ethereal voice and unmistakable compositions will float across the open land – fragile, timeless, precise.

Opening the evening is Elisabeth Klinck, a young violinist and composer who speaks a language yet to be fully defined. With her newly released album Chronotopia, Klinck gives voice – literally – to the tension between sound and silence, future and memory. Her solo performance navigates electroacoustic textures with a delicate, searching presence.

B-Classic, who co-curate the evening with AFF, have previously worked with Klinck in projects such as the visceral trio Isabelle Lewis. Here, in the vast open plain in the back most area of LABIOMISTA, her music takes on new dimensions.

There is no stage in the traditional sense.

No velvet curtains. No ceiling.

Just air. Just light. Just sound. 

Protected Paradise – a vast plain of 12 hectares where nature rules, bordering water – becomes the concert hall. A living ecosystem, shaped by nature and the (in)visible movements of the animal world. The black storks may rise. The moths may dance. The Galloways and Konik horses may drift near, curious. Here, your experience unfolds not just through what you hear, but how you listen. What meets you, in the music and the land, is uncertain.
