Koen Vanmechelen and Youssou N’Dour launch Wild Gene Festival

On August 1, 2025, artist Koen Vanmechelen and global music icon Youssou N’Dour come together for the inaugural edition of the Wild Gene Festival – a vibrant celebration of creativity, diversity, and connection.

At the heart of this unique collaboration lies a shared belief in the transformative power of art and music. As Youssou N’Dour and his legendary band Le Super Étoile de Dakar immerse the audience in rhythm and sound, Vanmechelen will translate this energy live into a monumental 9-meter painting.

Hosted at LABIOMISTA, the artist’s evolving artwork and open-air studio in Genk, the festival brings together voices from around the world. From Zimbabwean musician Hope Masike to changemaker Chido Govera, the Wild Gene Festival offers a day of exchange, expression, and shared futures.
