This summer artist Koen Vanmechelen will show his work ‘Temptation’ in Fondation Linda & Guy Pieters in St. Tropez, France. The exposition will open on 13 June 2022 and symbolizes the explosion, the big bang of a new world in which we must find a new order to live collectively together.
Art has forever been a crucial element in every human society. Art entices people to social thinking. It invites them in a specific way to ponder things yet invisible, leading to a new revolution. This is part of Koen Vanmechelen’s Cosmopolitan Renaissance philosophy. He initiates dialogue with the old masters. Why them? As Yeats said in his poem Musée des Beaux Arts “About suffering they were never wrong, The Old Masters: how well they understood its human position, how it takes place.” Suffering and struggling are at the core of our existence. Hence Cosmopolitan Fossil: a child struggling with a chicken, the hybrid Temptation busts and the azulejo tile works of the medusa and the various hybrid figures. They symbolize the explosion, the big bang of a new world in which we must find a new order to live collectively together. In this new order, we must recognize each other.
